HCMC – The first metro line in HCMC is undergoing a comprehensive digital transformation to enhance its management, operation, and maintenance, according to Le Minh Triet, director of HCMC Urban Railway Company 1 (HURC1).

The project will utilize building information modeling (BIM) and geographic information system (GIS) technologies to create a detailed 3D model of the 19.7-kilometer-long metro line from District 1 to Thu Duc City.

“This model will not only define the route but also update the coordinates of each location, aiming to optimize the efficiency of the line’s operations,” said Triet.

The digital model will provide real-time data on the condition of each component, enabling proactive maintenance and cost reduction. It will also allow for the simulation of potential incidents and the development of rapid response scenarios.

In the long term, the model will contribute to the development of the city’s urban railway network and integrate with public transport and urban traffic planning.

Pham Anh Tuan, general director of Portcoast, the project’s partner, said that 11 stations have already been surveyed and modeled in 3D. The remaining three underground stations and the elevated section are expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

The digital model will be a 1:1 representation of the actual metro line, including dimensions, information, location, and depth. Sensors will be installed to monitor displacement, temperature, and air quality, ensuring timely management and adjustments.
