HCMC – A low-pressure system in the East Sea intensified into a tropical depression this morning, July 19, and is expected to approach the Hoang Sa Islands (Paracels) off Danang’s coast within the next two days.
At around 7 a.m., the tropical depression was reported to have winds at level 6 and was moving northwest at 5-10 kilometers per hour, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The system is projected to move west-northwest at 10-15 kilometers per hour. By 7 a.m. on July 21, it will be located in the northeastern waters of the Hoang Sa Islands, with winds at levels 6-7, gusting at level 9.
The tropical depression is expected to trigger heavy rain and thunderstorms in the waters in northern and central East Sea, accompanied by strong winds of levels 6 and 7, gusting up to level 9.
The waters from Khanh Hoa to Binh Thuan, as well as the western part of the central and southern East Sea, could experience winds of level 5, with gusts reaching levels 7-8.
This is the second tropical depression to develop over the East Sea in the past week.
