HCMC – General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee passed away at 1:38 p.m. today, July 19, 2024, at the Central Military Hospital 108, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Information from the Central Committee for Protection and Health Care of Cadres showed that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, born in 1944, passed away due to old age and severe illness, despite the devoted treatment by the Party, the State, leading professors, doctors, and medical experts, as well as the dedicated care from his family.
The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the State President, the Government, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front will issue a special announcement regarding the organization of the State Funeral for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
In recognition of his numerous contributions and outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had been awarded the Gold Star Order, the 55-Year Party Membership Badge, and many other prestigious medals from both Vietnam and international organizations.
