HCMC – Vietnam imports about 100,000 tons of pesticides a year to support its agricultural sector, reported the Plant Protection Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Vietnam Pesticide Association confirmed the sector’s significant dependence on foreign products during a conference focused on promoting pesticide production, held on July 24.

The association noted that despite the country having 96 pesticide production facilities with a combined yearly capacity of over 300,000 tons, these facilities only produce 30 types of pesticides. Additionally, only one facility manufactures chemical pesticide active ingredients, with a yearly capacity of about 50 tons, intended solely for domestic use.

The uneven production capabilities across facilities and the limited investment in active ingredient production present significant challenges.
