HCMC – An underpass that leads to the under-construction Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport was opened to traffic on August 10, three months earlier than expected.

Tran Quoc Hoan underpass, part of a new road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa streets, will help ease traffic congestion at the gateway to the airport.

Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City (TCIP) held the inauguration ceremony of the Tran Quoc Hoan underpass, with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and HCMC Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen attending.

Speaking at the ceremony, Luong Minh Phuc, director of TCIP, said that the road project that links Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa streets started construction on the same day as the construction of Terminal T3.

The new road will complete traffic infrastructure and reduce congestion in the Tan Son Nhat airport area, especially when Terminal T3 is completed in the first quarter of next year.

“Today, Tran Quoc Hoan underpass is officially completed after more than one year of construction. The project has faced multiple difficulties due to high traffic density, requiring construction to proceed while ensuring the regular movement of people. Therefore, the parties involved have made great efforts to carry out construction work according to the Prime Minister’s directives, so Tran Quoc Hoan underpass was completed three months ahead of schedule,” Phuc said.

Phuc noted TCIP is striving to complete the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa streets before the end of this year.

At the ceremony, PM Pham Minh Chinh said that with construction work started in December 2022, Tran Quoc Hoan underpass was now finished and that the city had launched a 130-day campaign to get the entire road project done.

This demonstrates the strong determination of the Party Committee and the people of HCMC, particularly the sacrifices made by residents who relocated to make room for the project, he added.

He described Tran Quoc Hoan underpass as significant, saying it will ensure synchronized operations with Terminal T3. “I highly appreciate HCMC’s efforts to get the underpass completed three months ahead of schedule, which reflects the great efforts of agencies at all levels, residents and businesses.”
