HCMC – Trade through the Mong Cai border gate in Quang Ninh Province amounted to US$2.64 billion in the first eight months of the year, a 24% increase over the same period last year, the local media reported.
Customs duty revenue at the border gate also rose significantly, totaling nearly VND1.6 trillion, which is 99.2% of the annual target and 50% higher than last year. The number of new businesses operating in the area increased by 265.
Border activity surged, with over 4.5 million border crossings processed during the period, rocketing by 97.5% year-on-year, while tourist arrivals to Mong Cai spiked by 62% to 2.7 million visitors.
Local authorities in Mong Cai City have been actively collaborating with their counterparts in Dongxing, China, to address challenges and attract more businesses to the area.
Security and customs procedures have been enhanced to prevent illegal activities and ensure efficient operations.
The Mong Cai international border gate, including the Bac Luan II bridge, reopened for passenger services on the Nanning-Halong bus route on September 3, further boosting trade and travel.
Customs officials are offering additional support to businesses and increasing checks on goods and passengers to maintain smooth and secure operations.
