HCMC – General Luong Cuong, member of the Politburo and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on October 11 during his working visit to Beijing.
Cuong’s October 9-12 China visit follows an invitation by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
In the meeting, Cuong emphasized that strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and building a Vietnam-China community with a shared future is an essential and strategic priority for Vietnam’s foreign policy. He reiterated the importance of Vietnam’s relationship with China in achieving these goals.
In response, President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to prioritizing its relationship with Vietnam. He highlighted the importance of sustaining high-level exchanges, enhancing contacts, and strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors.
Xi suggested that both nations should continue to enhance the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms, particularly through Party channels, and implement dialogue mechanisms in defense and security.
Xi also called for stronger cooperation in key areas, including railway, infrastructure development, border gate management, state-owned enterprise cooperation, environmental protection, and emerging fields like digital economy and green development. Additionally, he noted the importance of disaster control and mitigation efforts.
The Chinese side expressed interest in deepening cooperation in traditional sectors and expanding into new areas of mutual benefit, importing more Vietnamese agricultural products and encouraging Chinese firms to do more business in Vietnam.
