HCMC – The Government has approved the expansion of the Cam Lo–La Son Expressway from two to four lanes.
According to Decision 1244/QD-TTg of the prime minister, a 98.35-kilometer road would be constructed in parallel with the current Cam Lo–La Son Expressway. This road will start in Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Province, and extend to the vicinity of the La Son–Hoa Lien project in Thua Thien–Hue Province, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
The Ministry of Transport will oversee this publicly funded project, which falls under the Group A category.
As per the 2019 Law on Public Investment, Group A projects include those related to national defense, hazardous production, and industrial, processing, and high-tech zones, irrespective of cost. For fields such as transportation, energy, housing, and technology, classification is based on specific investment thresholds, ranging from VND800 billion to VND2,300 billion, depending on the sector.
The Cam Lo–La Son Expressway expansion will use nearly VND5.5 trillion from the 2021-2025 medium-term public investment plan, with an additional VND1 trillion allocated from the 2026-2030 plan.
The Ministry of Transport will collaborate with local authorities and relevant agencies to finalize project documentation, conduct an environmental impact assessment, and manage land clearance.
