HCMC – Vietnam recorded more than 659,000 cyberattacks targeting businesses and organizations in 2024, a report by the National Cybersecurity Association (NCA) said.
Nearly half of surveyed entities experienced at least one attack, with 6.8% reporting frequent incidents, according to the report. The survey, conducted in December, involved 4,935 organizations.
Advanced Persistent Threats (APT), targeting networks or computers, made up 26.14% of incidents. Ransomware attacks, which encrypt data for ransom, accounted for 14.6%, causing significant operational disruptions.
The report pointed to cybersecurity staffing and data protection weaknesses as key vulnerabilities. More than 20% of surveyed organizations lack cybersecurity personnel, while 35.6% have fewer than five specialists.
On data protection, 43.5% do not have dedicated roles or rely on multitasking staff. Nearly one fifth of organizations struggle with compliance on data protection standards.
The report noted progress in cybersecurity awareness and technology adoption. Around 85% of entities have antivirus software, and 75.7% use firewalls. Additionally, 64.1% have data backup and recovery solutions, and 75.7% conducted cybersecurity training at least once a year.
Over half of surveyed organizations implemented international cybersecurity standards, such as ISO, PCI DSS, or NIST, the report added.
The NCA warned of increased threats in 2025 from advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, blockchain, and quantum computing. Vulnerabilities in Internet of Things (IoT) devices, driven by 5G growth, are also expected to rise.
