HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has proposed strengthening economic cooperation with Poland to bring two-way trade to US$5 billion.

Speaking at a meeting in Warsaw on January 16 with Polish Prime Minister Donald Franciszek Tusk, PM Chinh said the two countries should boost trade as a measure for elevating their bilateral ties.

The two sides expressed a commitment to potentially upgrade their relationship to a strategic partnership.

PM Tusk reaffirmed Vietnam’s status as a long-standing friend and a key partner of Poland in Southeast Asia.

For his part, PM Chinh highlighted Vietnam’s dedication to deepening ties with Poland, a key partner in Central and Eastern Europe.

He said the two nations need to strengthen political trust, and develop economic cooperation as a central pillar of their partnership.

Vietnam and Poland are working towards achieving US$5 billion in bilateral trade soon, he said.

He proposed enhancing cooperation in sectors such as security, defense, digital transformation, green transition, and chip manufacturing. He also urged Poland to further integrate its Vietnamese community and officially recognize them as an ethnic minority.

In response, PM Tusk assured that Poland would soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and support the European Commission in lifting the “yellow card” on Vietnam’s seafood exports to the EU market.

The leaders agreed to expand their collaboration into emerging fields such as renewable energy, digital transformation, and information technology. Additionally, they pledged to advance cooperation in defense, trade, transportation, railway connectivity, and pharmaceuticals.

Both nations emphasized the importance of supporting each other as gateways for goods entering the ASEAN and EU markets, bolstering their roles in regional trade.

PM Chinh is in Poland for an official visit from January 16 to 18.
