HCMC – Cat Lai Port handled seven cargo ships on Lunar New Year’s Eve, continuing operations through the holiday period.

On the night of January 28 (the 29th day of the final lunar month), Saigon Newport Corporation issued the first cargo handling orders of the Year of the Snake at Cat Lai Port in HCMC.

On New Year’s Eve, Cat Lai Port handled seven container ships, with a total unloading capacity of nearly 10,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), equivalent to 140,000 tons of goods. The first container was placed on the CNC CHEETAH, a CMA-CGM vessel with a carrying capacity of 39,000 tons and nearly 2,900 TEUs.

The vessel is scheduled to travel to Shekou, Dalian, and Ningbo in China, carrying electronics goods — one of the main export items contributing to HCMC’s exports, which surpassed US$46 billion in 2024.

Saigon Newport Corporation stated that over 1,100 workers are on duty during each shift to ensure smooth cargo handling operations during the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday.

In the first week of the Lunar New Year 2025, the port is set to manage 76 ships, moving a total of 110,000 TEUs, or 1.5 million tons of goods. This represents a 9% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

In 2025, in addition to its three traditional business pillars — port operation, logistics, and maritime services — Saigon Newport Corporation plans to develop two new sectors: industrial park investment and offshore renewable energy. With these five pillars, the company aims for a 5% increase in key economic indicators (revenue, profit), with logistics services expected to grow by over 15%.

Despite global economic challenges, the company reported a strong 2024 performance, with container throughput increasing by 10.1% to 10.81 million TEUs. Total revenue reached VND32 trillion, up 15.6%, and contributed over VND2,672 billion to the State budget.
