HCMC – A powerful cold front is set to sweep across northern Vietnam this weekend, sending temperatures down to two degrees Celsius in mountainous areas, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The cold air mass is currently moving toward Vietnam and is expected to reach northeastern provinces by the morning of February 7, before spreading to the delta and northwestern regions.
With the combined impact of the incoming front and the existing cold air, temperatures will drop sharply. Mountainous areas could see temperatures below two degrees Celsius, with a chance of snow and ice.
The midland and mountainous regions are forecasted to experience temperatures of five to eight degrees Celsius.
The cold front will also affect central Vietnam from the night of February 7. Temperatures in the north-central region are expected to fall to the range of 11 and 14 degrees Celsius, while Quang Binh to Hue will see 14-16 two degrees Celsius.
The weather agency has warned of extreme conditions, including thunderstorms, whirlwinds, lightning, and strong winds, which could pose risks to agriculture, infrastructure, and transportation networks.
