HCMC – A 70-kilometer section of the Van Phong–Nha Trang expressway in south-central Vietnam is scheduled to be opened to traffic on April 19, eight months ahead of schedule.
According to Project Management Board No. 7 under the Ministry of Construction, the completed section runs from the Van Gia interchange (Km 298+000) to the National Highway 27C interchange (Km 368+350). The handover has been approved by the State Acceptance Council, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
The section includes 28 bridges, residential access roads, two restored highway sections (1.8 kilometers of National Highway 1A and 1.84 kilometers of National Highway 27C), three interchanges (Van Gia, National Highway 26, and National Highway 27C), safety and lighting systems, rest areas, a smart traffic management system (ITS), toll stations, and weight stations.
Tran Dinh Tuyen, deputy director of the board, said the expressway section has been completed in accordance with approved designs. Full completion of the expressway is expected by June 30.
The State Acceptance Council has asked the project investor to closely monitor traffic volume, signage, and traffic conditions, and to promptly address any damage or deficiencies to maintain safety and road quality. Unfinished components such as toll stations, ITS systems, and rest areas must be completed soon. In the meantime, temporary measures will be adopted to ensure safe and effective operations.
At a project review meeting, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan praised the investor and contractors for completing the section ahead of schedule. He urged the Department of Road Management to promptly approve the traffic operation plan and facilitate handover of the completed 70.3 kilometers for public use.
