HCMC — A 4.3-kilometer road section along the Tham Luong–Ben Cat–Nuoc Len Canal was opened to traffic this morning, April 29, marking progress in HCMC’s key infrastructure and environmental improvement project.

The section passes through Binh Tan District, Go Vap District, and District 12.

The HCMC Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Projects Management Unit, the project owner, said the full technical opening of the canal-side roads is slated for September, with project completion expected by the end of 2025, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

Nguyen Hoang Anh Dung, deputy director of the management unit, said the partial opening aimed to push the contractors to speed up work and meet the schedule. Once completed, the roads will ease inner-city congestion and handle large vehicle flows.

The VND9-trillion project involves dredging nearly 32 kilometers of canal, building embankments, repairing and constructing culverts, developing the roads 8 to 12 meters wide on both sides of the canal, and installing lighting, drainage, and technical systems.

Construction began in February 2023 with 10 packages and the project is now 46% complete.

The project is part of the city’s 2020-2045 plan for flood control and wastewater management.
