Ba Lang An, also known as Batangan, captivates visitors with its striking coastal landscape, bustling seafood market at dawn, and abundant fresh catches from the sea.
Beyond its natural charm, this coastal area in Quang Ngai Province is also a site of rich historical and cultural significance, drawing tourists and researchers eager to explore its layered past.

Ba Lang An is located about 25 kilometers northeast of Quang Ngai City. The name of this destination is derived from the combination of three adjacent villages: An Hai, An Vinh, and An Ky.
What makes Ba Lang An truly captivating is its geological structure with clusters of basalt rocks, laterite soil, and traces of ancient volcanic lava flows. One of the area’s standout features is a small extinct volcano, about 30 square meters wide, where visitors can find lush seaweed and vibrant coral reefs nestled among the sedimentary rocks.

At dawn, the beach comes alive as fishermen return with their fresh catch after a night at sea. The bustling seafood market offers a feast for the senses, with affordable and delicious choices. Visitors can even start a fire on the beach and grill seafood right by the waves, experiencing the essence of coastal life in its most authentic form.
Beyond its natural allure, Ba Lang An is steeped in historical significance. The area was once home to ancient Cham communities and later became a settlement for ethnic Vietnamese. Throughout history, it played a crucial role during the resistance wars against French and American forces. Notably, residents of Ba Lang An were among the pioneers who reclaimed and settled on Ly Son Island and participated in efforts to protect Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty over the Hoang Sa Islands.

For panoramic views, visitors can head to the Ba Lang An Lighthouse, located on the top of the headland. Built in 1982 to guide vessels navigating the local waters, the lighthouse was recently renovated and now stands out with a fresh coat of paint. Climbing the 80 steps to the top rewards visitors with sweeping vistas of the coastline, volcanic cliffs, and Ly Son Island on the horizon.
The best time to visit Ba Lang An is between May and August, when the weather is calm and sunny—ideal for exploring its landscapes and enjoying the sea. The rainy season sets in from September to February, making travel more challenging.
