Export prices of Vietnamese rice fall sharply

HCMC – The export price of Vietnamese rice in the first five months of 2025 dropped by a sharp 18.7% compared to the same period last year to US$516.4 per ton on average, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

During the period, rice exports totaled 4.5 million tons worth a total of US$2.34 billion, a 12.2% increase in volume but an 8.9% decline in value.

The Philippines remained Vietnam’s largest rice buyer, accounting for 41.4% of total export volume, despite a nearly 22% drop in export value. In contrast, shipments to Ivory Coast and China surged by 2.7 times and 83.7%, respectively.

Notably, rice exports to Bangladesh soared by 515.6 times, while shipments to Indonesia plummeted by 97.9%.

Paddy and rice prices in the Mekong Delta held steady last week, despite a slight drop in Vietnam’s export rice prices.

The Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development reported that dried IR 50404 paddy was priced at VND6,600 per kilogram in both Vinh Long and Tien Giang, up VND100 from the previous week.

OM18 paddy was sold at VND7,500 per kilogram in Can Tho, VND8,100 in Soc Trang, and VND7,000 in Tien Giang. Jasmine rice fetched VND8,400 per kilogram in Can Tho and VND7,100 in Tien Giang.

Meanwhile, Dai Thom 8 paddy in Soc Trang dropped by VND200 to VND7,700 per kilogram, while ST25 paddy in Can Tho remained unchanged at VND9,500 per kilogram.
