HCMC – Vietnam’s Covid-19 tally has reached 984,805, with 8,133 new cases being confirmed this evening, November 9, by the Ministry of Health.

Of the total, four of them were imported and 8,129 were locally infected in 55 cities and provinces, up 175 cases over yesterday.

Among the domestic cases, HCMC accounted for the highest number at 1,276, followed by Dong Nai with 923, Binh Duong with 619, Soc Trang with 572, An Giang with 557 and Dong Thap with 379.

Kien Giang, Ca Mau, Binh Thuan, Hanoi, Tay Ninh, Bac Lieu and Tien Giang reported over 200 infections each. The remainder were detected in other localities.

Since the current fourth wave of Covid-19 began in late April, the country has reported 979,840 domestic infections, with some 840,000 Covid patients having made a full recovery.

The ministry also reported 88 new Covid fatalities, taking the country’s Covid death toll to 22,686.

The latest deaths included 38 in HCMC, 11 in Binh Duong, seven in An Giang, five in Kien Giang, four each in Tay Ninh and Bac Lieu, three each in Dong Nai, Long An and Can Tho, two in Tien Giang and one each in Lam Dong, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Hau Giang, Hanoi and Soc Trang.

In related news, Binh Thuan Province started to pilot home isolation for Covid patients with mild or no symptoms today, the local media reported. The decision was made by the provincial government on the same day to ease the overloading facing Covid treatment facilities.

Apart from having been fully vaccinated or got one shot 14 days earlier, those under home isolation must be aged under 50, have no underlying health conditions and are not pregnant.

Covid patients under home isolation must strictly follow regulations on quarantine, comply with Covid safety protocols and only remain in their quarantine room during the required isolation period.

The Binh Thuan government asked the provincial Department of Health to direct the province’s Center for Disease Control to monitor these patients and assess the result of the three-month pilot.

Due to a surge of Covid infections, the province has established three more Covid treatment facilities in Phan Thiet City.
