HCMC – The Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project, connecting the Mekong Delta provinces of Dong Thap and Vinh Long, is on track for early completion, with nearly 97% of construction work finished and a total investment reduced by 50% thanks to locally developed technologies and equipment.
Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh today, July 12, visited the construction site to inspect progress. He praised the work of over 600 engineers and workers who have been operating around the clock to bring the project closer to completion, approximately six months ahead of schedule.
“This is a significant achievement, not only in terms of early delivery but also cost efficiency,” Minh said. “By mastering construction technologies, designs, and machinery, the project has saved nearly half of the expected investment. Individuals and contractors who perform well should be recognized and considered for future projects.”
According to Tran Van Thi, director of the My Thuan Project Management Board under the Ministry of Construction, the project is now 96.5% complete. Workers are currently finalizing key elements, including road markings, lighting installation, median barriers, and asphalt paving on the remaining segments in Dong Thap.
The bridge’s starting point is at the Dong Tam intersection (linking National Highway 1 and Provincial Road 870) in Dong Thap, and ends at Km 16+660 on National Highway 60, about 710 meters from the northern abutment of Ham Luong Bridge in Vinh Long.
Rach Mieu 2 features a cable-stayed design and is being built with state budget funds totaling VND6.81 trillion (approximately US$267 million). Once completed, the bridge is expected to improve connectivity and traffic flow across the Mekong Delta region.
