HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has instructed all relevant agencies to maintain 24/7 operations and strictly adhere to storm response protocols as Storm Wipha, the third storm of the year, nears the country.
The directive urged aviation stakeholders to urgently implement storm response measures to mitigate potential impact from Wipha.
To ensure maximum safety for passengers, equipment, and infrastructure at airports, and to minimize operational disruptions, the CAAV directed relevant entities to maintain continuous operations and rigorously implement protocols for responding to storms and tropical depressions within civil aviation.
The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and Van Don International Airport, both in areas affected by the storm, were tasked with leading efforts in coordination with other agencies to inspect airport infrastructure and communication systems to detect and address any damages to ensure safety of facilities and air traffic operations.
Airports are to implement anti-flooding and storm prevention measures, clear drainage systems, and protect airport structures, vehicles, and equipment. Meteorological information should be updated regularly to inform timely operational decisions.
Airlines and flight operation service providers are to coordinate closely and monitor the storm’s developments in order to adjust flight schedules as needed to ensure flight safety.
The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) was told to enhance the accuracy and timeliness of meteorological data, continuously monitor weather conditions within their area of responsibility, and deliver forecasts and warnings to aviation users.
