Local gold prices surge further

HCMC – SJC gold bar prices at many jewelry outlets today, September 3, soared to a record high of VND133.4 million per tael, according to the local media.

At around 10 a.m. on September 3, SJC gold bar prices at Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and DOJI rose by an additional VND2.8 million per tael on both sides.

The buying price stood at VND131.9 million per tael, while the selling price reached VND133.4 million, with a spread of VND1.5 million per tael.

At Phu Quy Jewelry, SJC gold bar prices were quoted at VND131 million per tael for buying and VND133.4 million for selling, up by VND2.9 million and VND2.8 million per tael, respectively. The buying-selling spread stood at VND2.4 million per tael.

Meanwhile, Bao Tin Minh Chau listed buying prices at VND131.4 million per tael and selling prices at VND133.4 million, a sharp increase of VND2.8 million per tael on both sides.

Ring gold prices followed the same upward trend.

SJC bought gold rings at VND125.1 million per tael and sold them at VND127.6 million per tael this morning, both up by VND2.6 million.

At Phu Quy Jewelry, ring gold gained VND900,000 per tael, with the buying price climbing to VND125.2 million and the selling price to VND128.2 million. Bao Tin Minh Chau quoted prices at VND125.7 million for buying and VND128.7 million for selling, up by VND1 million per tael on both sides.

On the global market, gold prices picked up more than 1% on September 2, soaring past the US$3,500 per ounce mark to a new all-time high, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

At 1 a.m. on September 3 (Vietnam time), spot gold was up 1.5% at US$3,529.01 per ounce, after briefly hitting a record US$3,529.93. December gold futures closed 2.2% higher at US$3,592.2 per ounce.
