How Scavi Group weaves sustainability into fashion

By Trung Chau

Must read

At first glance, Scavi may look like just another name in the global lingerie, swimwear, and sportswear industry. But behind the fabric lies a deeper story. For nearly four decades in Vietnam, the company has embraced responsibility as its guiding thread—placing sustainability and environmental care at the heart of its business model before extending its commitment to lifelong education, community development, and social well-being.

At the heart of this repositioning strategy lies Scavi’s distinctive “4.0 – HUBCLUB – 3P” model, which redefines what it means to operate responsibly in today’s interconnected world.

A model built on responsibility

The first pillar, 4.0, reflects Scavi’s embrace of digitization – automation and AI to align with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. By streamlining production and distribution, Scavi aims not only for efficiency but also for cutting out unnecessary intermediaries that add cost without value. This approach enables the company to shorten supply chains, reduce emissions, and respond more quickly to customers.

The second element, HUBCLUB, creates a collaborative platform that connects customers, the B’Lao Group through Scavi, and suppliers. It is essentially a “Responsible Textile-Fashion Club” where shared targets, transparent processes, and sustainable practices align everyone in the supply chain with the end-user.

Finally, 3P highlights three pioneering responsibilities: responsibility within the industry, responsibility to society through lifetime education, and responsibility to the environment. Together, they underscore Scavi’s message: “Responsible Brands – Meaningful Consumption.”

Greener production, smarter design

Environmental responsibility has become one of Scavi’s strongest commitments. The company designs products with eco-friendly materials, limiting waste and reducing emissions from transportation and warehousing. The entire Scavi factory network meets international social responsibility standards, including WRAP, BSCI, and C-TPAT, while also achieving high scores in the Higg Facility Environmental Module (FEM). With an impressive 80 points, Scavi ranks among leaders in environmental protection across the global apparel industry.

Its dedication extends to sourcing: Scavi uses certified fabrics such as OCS (organic content), RCS and GRS (recycled), GOTS (organic), Oeko-Tex (safe textiles), and Vegan-certified inputs. The group is also investing in greener infrastructure, with factories built or upgraded to meet Advanced EDGE certification. These facilities use eco-design principles and materials that cut carbon emissions, saving up to 81% in energy, 44% in water, and 60% in raw materials.

In particular, Scavi pioneers in supporting international brands to progressively relocalize their supply chains – producing closer to the consumption markets and end-users – while simultaneously developing the shortest direct distribution channels by minimizing intermediaries that add little value. Scavi is the first industrial group in its sector to begin relocating production back to Europe and North America.

At Scavi, developing responsibly while protecting the planet defines its strategic vision for the Textile–Fashion industry.

Lifetime education as social responsibility

Scavi’s leaders believe that true sustainability depends not only on products and factories but also on people. Education, therefore, has become a central pillar of its social responsibility. Through the B’Lao Foundation, established in 2017 by Chairman-Founder Tran Van Phu, Scavi has built a system that supports “initial education” for children and “continuous education” for adults. The aim is to instill values of responsibility while equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills to thrive throughout their lives.

In Hue, Scavi operates a Montessori kindergarten that welcomes both members’ children and local families. Recognized as a national standard school in 2025, it is set to expand to 600 students. The foundation also offers scholarships from primary to high school, and even sponsors a Research and Education Chair on Responsible Textile Development in collaboration with École des Mines (Paris, France) – emphasizing hands-on learning for future industry leaders.

Beyond formal education, Scavi promotes sports, culture, and wellness. It has partnered with local schools in Hue to organize community sports festivals, supported traditional boat racing events, and funded marathons like Hue Jogging. The company also provides modern dental care facilities accessible to all members, builds housing for more than 400 members, and runs the “Chắp cánh Scavi” (Scavi Wings) program, which gifts homes and scholarships to families in need.

Standing with communities

Scavi’s sense of responsibility extends outward to the communities where it operates. When Typhoon Yagi struck, the company donated VND1 billion to support affected families. It has consistently supported local cultural and social initiatives, reinforcing the idea that a business thrives only when the community around it prospers.

Most recently, Scavi collaborated with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) – Department of International Market Development (DIMD) on repositioning Vietnam’s Textile–Fashion industry for the future. Representing Vietnam’s textile and fashion sector, Scavi introduced the Responsible Textile-Fashion Pavilion at the center of the exhibition hall, bringing together its entire supply chain and showcasing a united commitment to sustainable fashion. The pavilion featured: 23 exhibitors; over 100 international buyers and partners; more than 1,000 visitors. This took place at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC).

In 2025, it also launched the “Responsible Uniform” initiative in partnership with Corèle, encouraging younger generation to connect everyday fashion choices with environmental and social awareness.

Starting with school uniforms, Scavi demonstrated how sustainable, high-quality, and affordable products can efficiently reach end-users. Scavi believes Vietnam’s youth are now stepping up as the first generation of Responsible Fashion Ambassadors.

A global partner, rooted in Vietnam

Today, Scavi operates 11 factories across Vietnam and maintains a global presence through the B’Lao Group in France, Laos, and China. With more than 20,000 members and an annual production capacity of over 100 million pieces, Scavi has become a global outsourcing powerhouse offering end-to-end services (from sourcing, design, technical fitting, in-line and final quality control, to manufacturing and delivery). Yet its leadership insists that numbers alone do not define success.

For Scavi, success is measured in how well it balances growth with responsibility, efficiency with compassion, and global reach with local impact. Its journey of nearly 40 years in Vietnam proves that a business can be competitive and profitable while also championing people, education, and the environment.

As the Group looks ahead, the Responsible Heart value — its enduring moral compass — continues to beat strongly, guiding both industry peers and consumers to understand that fashion can be more than beautiful garments. It can be a driver of meaningful change.
