HCMC – The Management Authority for Urban Railways of HCMC (MAUR) has launched a 60-day campaign to fast-track key tasks needed to begin work on Metro Line 2 before the end of this year.

The campaign runs from November 1 to December 31, with a goal to complete project adjustments, select EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contractors, appoint supervision and project management consultants, and prepare for the groundbreaking.

MAUR has asked all participating units to strengthen accountability and clearly define responsibilities, timelines, and deliverables to keep the project on schedule. The effort is part of the city’s broader targets for the 2020-2025 socio-economic development period.

Metro Line 2 will span more than 11 kilometers and connect Ben Thanh Market in downtown HCMC and Tham Luong depot in former District 12, with 9.2 kilometers underground and the remainder elevated. It will comprise 10 stations, with nine of them underground and one elevated.

Approved in 2010, the project originally required an estimated investment of VND26 trillion. The cost was revised to nearly VND47.9 trillion in 2019. The line was once expected to be put into service in 2026, but delays pushed the completion time to 2030, following a decision by the city government in October 2023.
