Covid deaths, hospitalizations dip after one month of safe adaptation to pandemic

HCMC – After more than 30 days of the Government adopting Resolution 128 on “safely and flexibly adapting to and effectively controlling Covid-19”, the country has seen Covid deaths and critical patients dipping by 46.3% and 40.8% month-on-month, respectively.

Hospitalizations between October 11 and November 19 fell by 25.3% over the previous period, heard an anti-Covid meeting held by the national steering committee for Covid infection prevention and control today, November 20.

Speaking at the online review meeting on the resolution, the Ministry of Health said that the country had reported over 105,500 Covid cases from October 11 to November 19, up 2.9% against the period earlier, but hospitalizations, fatalities and critical cases had taken a nosedive.

The Covid situation has been brought under control, the ministry said, adding that community-infected cases in several provinces and cities are on the rise as the pathogen exists in the community, and many cases have developed no symptoms.

In addition, the sources of transmission of many Covid cases remained unknown, making it tough to prevent the spread of Covid.

As of November 19, Vietnam had received 131.2 million doses of Covid vaccines, with 129.6 million doses allocated to provinces and cities nationwide, the local media reported.

The country has administered over 106 million doses, with 53.4% of adults getting two doses. As many as 18 provinces and cities are vaccinating children aged between 12 and 17 against Covid-19.

On October 11, the Government issued the resolution aimed at protecting the health and lives of residents, minimizing the number of new Covid-19 cases and deaths, helping socioeconomic activities recover, ensuring security and social order and returning to a new normal at the earliest, expected later this year.
