Health Ministry confirms 13,770 new Covid cases

HCMC – The Ministry of Health announced 13,770 fresh Covid-19 infections this evening, November 29, with 12 of them imported and 13,758 locally infected, up 830 cases day-on-day.

HCMC reported the most infections, at 1,554 cases, followed by Can Tho with 913 cases, Tay Ninh with 719, Binh Duong with 697, Ba Ria-Vung Tau with 648 and Dong Thap with 608.

In addition, Soc Trang, Binh Thuan, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Dong Nai, Bac Lieu and Binh Phuoc had more than 500 cases each.

Also, 14 other localities each saw a triple-digit figure in the case number, while 32 other provinces reported fewer than 100 cases each.

In the ongoing fourth wave of the pandemic, which began in late April, Vietnam has reported more than 1.2 million domestic Covid cases.

The Health Ministry also confirmed 173 more Covid deaths today, raising the country’s coronavirus death toll to over 25,000 cases.

Of the new fatalities, HCMC also accounted for the most, at 62 cases, including 11 cases transferred from other provinces to the city.

In addition, 22 Covid fatalities were reported in Binh Duong, 12 in Dong Nai, 10 each in An Giang, Tien Giang and Can Tho, and eight in Tay Ninh. Thirteen other provinces had one to seven fatalities each.

Meanwhile, nearly 16,100 Covid patients were discharged from hospitals today, bringing the country’s recoveries in the fourth wave to over 971,900 cases.

In Can Tho City, the number of new Covid-19 cases has surged over the past few days and many pandemic clusters have been detected in crowded residential areas.

Therefore, the municipal Department of Health has divided its Covid-19 treatment system into three levels to triage patients. Specifically, 83 medical stations of wards and communes and 50 pop-up healthcare stations at the first level will be in charge of patients with mild symptoms. At this level, nearly 9,000 Covid cases are being monitored and treated at their homes.

Meanwhile, hospitals at the second level have a total capacity of 2,750 beds but have received more than 2,750 patients.

At the third level, there are 350 beds for critical patients. Hospitals at this level have admitted 287 patients.

Can Tho has had plans to develop more field hospitals for Covid-19 treatment.

The municipal Department of Health has accelerated the Covid-19 vaccination. To date, 96.8% of residents aged 18 and above in the city have got their first Covid vaccine shots and 86.9% have received their second doses. The city has also administered the first Covid vaccine dose to 86% of children aged between 12 and 17.

In related news, Vinh Long Province has decided to upgrade its Covid-19 transmission risk level from moderate to high from November 30.

The provincial government assigned the Department of Health to coordinate with the relevant departments, agencies and districts to inform local residents and enterprises of the decision so that they can apply appropriate anti-pandemic measures.
