HCMC – HCMC will choose December 10 as the start date to administer 6.3 million Covid-19 booster shots to help local residents stay protected over time, according to the city health authority’s draft plan.
Additional doses will be given to people 18 and older who have moderately to severely compromised immune systems and got their second doses at least 28 days ago. People 50 and older are also on the priority list.
Booster shots will be administered to people 18 and older who have received their initial vaccine series within the last six months, with priority given to people with underlying health conditions, those needing long-term treatment at hospitals, those aged over 50, and frontline healthcare workers.
As of December 5, over 7.9 million people in HCMC had received the first dose, and nearly 6.82 million of them had got their second doses.
In related news, the anti-Covid authority in the neighboring province of Binh Duong, at a meeting held yesterday, December 6, announced its plan to give booster shots to people aged 18 and older from this month. Similar to HCMC, the southern province will prioritize giving the booster shots to fully-vaccinated people aged 50 and older.
Nguyen Loc Ha, vice chairman of the provincial government, said the coronavirus infection curve in Binh Duong has been flattened. However, as the pandemic trajectory remains unpredictable, booster shots can help people maintain their level of immunity for longer.
Up to now, Binh Duong has administered more than 4.2 million doses, with over 2.4 million people getting the first dose and over 1.8 million receiving two doses.
