Transport Ministry weighs up license issuance for Vietravel Airlines amid Covid-19

Must read

HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has proposed that the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and Vietravel Airlines review and re-evaluate the air transportation, aircraft fleet and business plans of the airline, established by local tour operator Vietravel, amid the impact of Covid-19 before a business license is issued to it.

Vietravel Airlines’ application for a business license basically met all the requirements on the air transport business and matched the prime minister’s decision on aviation transport, according to the ministry.

However, due to the complicated development of Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, in the local and global markets, the ministry asked Vietravel Airlines to re-analyze and supplement its transport plans and preparations in terms of aircraft fleet, infrastructure, airport and travel demand to ensure its efficiency and feasibility after operation.

Besides, the airline was told to present its plan to secure an Aircraft Operator Certificate and detail its planned cooperation with other air carriers and local aviation service providers to ensure it is ready for operation, Tuoi Tre Online reported.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam was tasked with reviewing and reporting the advantages and disadvantages regarding aircraft maintenance, infrastructure, human resources and safety monitoring capability that would affect Vietravel Airlines.

Aside from this, the authority should work with the Department of Transportation to update a draft report on license issuance for Vietravel Airlines, which will be submitted to the prime minister.

Vietravel Airlines, with a charter capital of VND700 billion, is set to operate for 50 years. In the first year of operations, the airline will use three Airbus or Boeing aircraft. The number of aircraft in it fleet is expected to increase to eight in the next five years.
