HCMC – The HCMC government has allowed secondary and high schools to resume in-person instruction for 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th graders from January 4, 2022.

Speaking at a press briefing on December 30, Trinh Duy Trong, head of the ideological politics division under the HCMC Department of Education and Training, said that 60%-80% of parents of students from secondary and high schools had approved of their children’s return to in-person classes.

After the New Year celebration, HCMC will see some 680,000 students return to school, local news reports said.

Schools were told to comply with Covid safety protocols to ensure the health of students, teachers and education staff.

The municipal department was tasked with planning to allow primary schools and kindergartens to reopen after the Lunar New Year holiday, depending on the Covid situation.

Earlier on December 13, nearly 150,000 students in 9th and 12th grades in HCMC got back to school in line with the city’s pilot school reopening after some four months of online learning. Over two weeks of school reopening for 9th and 12th graders, the city detected 60 positive Covid cases at schools.

The municipal government also allowed foreign language and computer skills centers and educational institutions to reopen from January 4 next year if they meet Covid safety requirements and are assessed safe from the pandemic by the anti-Covid steering committees of Thu Duc City or districts.
