Mu Cang Chai terraced fields receive Special National Heritage Certificate

HCMC – The Mu Cang Chai terraced fields have been classified as a special national heritage site, while the new rice festival of the Mong people in Mu Cang Chai District, Yen Bai Province, has been included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.

On the evening of Dec 31, the People’s Committee of Yen Bai held a ceremony to announce the decision and receive the certificate in Mu Cang Chai district.

At the ceremony, many special art performances took place to reenact the process of exploiting and conquering the high mountainside to create terraced fields. The cultural traditions involved in this form of farming were also reenacted.

Tran Huy Tuan, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People Committee, emphasized that Yen Bai Province will continue to conduct conservation activities and promote the value of relics and heritage in the area.

Besides, Yen Bai Province will also promote tourism development. From now until 2025, Mu Cang Chai District will become a tourist district and Nghia Lo town will become a cultural – tourist town.
