HCMC – A photo exhibition on the 50-year journey of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India (January 7, 1972 – 2022) was opened at the HCMC Museum on January 7, enabling visitors to understand more about the two countries’ traditional friendship and cultural cooperation.
The “Vietnam-India Friendship – A 50-year Journey” exhibition features 100 photos of the friendship and diplomatic, cultural and educational relationships between Vietnam and India.
The photos capture visits exchanged by Indian and Vietnamese leaders, such as President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to India in 1958 and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s trip to Vietnam in 1954.
They also reflect the bilateral cooperation between the two countries across multiple fields such as economic development, politics, national defense, security, trade and investment, science and technology, and culture.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Huynh Thanh Lap, chairman of the Vietnam – India Friendship Association in HCMC, said India has always supported Vietnam’s causes of national construction and development.
“Despite the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic over the past two years, the two countries still sustained their all-level exchanges and issued the Vietnam-India Joint Vision Statement for Peace, Prosperity and People in December 2020,” Lap said.
Vietnam and India have also provided each other with valuable support to overcome the pandemic and facilitate economic recovery, he added.
Indian Consul General to HCMC Madan Mohan Sethi expected that the two countries would further strengthen their collaboration in healthcare, education and culture, among others.
The “Vietnam-India Friendship – A 50-year Journey” exhibition will run until January 13 at the HCMC Museum, No. 65. Ly Tu Trong Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1.
Besides this photo exhibition at the HCMC Museum, a virtual photo exhibition titled “Vietnam-India: 50 Years of Cooperation” was launched on January 7 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-India diplomatic ties and five years since the establishment of the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The exhibition showcases 50 black-and-white and color photos, which reflect the increasingly strong solidarity between the governments and peoples of Vietnam and India.
Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Pranay Verma said the exhibition offers a glimpse into some precious historical milestones in the India-Vietnam relationship and captures the depth of their bilateral ties and close bond.

In addition, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between India and Vietnam was celebrated in Hanoi on January 6 by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-India Friendship Association in partnership with the Embassy of India in Vietnam.
The event was graced by Vice President of Vietnam Vo Thi Anh Xuan, while Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu sent a video message on the occasion.
Vietnam’s Minister of Information and Communications and Chairman of the Vietnam-India Friendship Association Nguyen Manh Hung and Ambassador Pranay Verma also addressed the gathering.
The celebrations included a bouquet of cultural performances by Indian and Vietnamese artists showcasing the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
India and Vietnam established formal diplomatic relations on January 7, 1972, even though friendly relations and close ties between the two countries had long preceded that milestone.
This important landmark in the year 2022 coincides with Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, which adds to the significance of the occasion.
