HCMC – The British Council, the UK’s international organization for educational and cultural opportunities, announced the winners of the 2019/20 IELTS Prize, comprising 29 winners from East Asia, including three with outstanding results from Vietnam—Dang Tran Tung, Pham Hoang Yen and Huynh Anh Tuan.
Tung, who won the first local IELTS Prize 2019/20, got an overall score of 9.0 for both the paper-based IELTS and the computer-delivered IELTS. He will pursue a Master of Teaching course at Curtin University, Australia, next year.
Yen, who won the second local IELTS Prize 2019/20, will study MSc. in International Design Business Management, Aalto University, Finland.
Tuan, the third winner of the local IELTS Prize 2019/20, will pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Information Systems, University of Sydney, Australia.
The three won prizes amounting to VND180 million, VND150 million and VND120 million, respectively, and will become British Council IELTS Ambassadors.
The British Council received over 1,400 applications and interviewed over 100 individuals.

More importantly, they show determination to take what they have learnt and use it to benefit their communities when they graduate. It is our privilege to help these talented individuals make their mark in a world that is rapidly changing.”
Due to Covid-19, the British Council will host a virtual award ceremony for this year’s IELTS Prize winners, which will be held on September 25 and live-streamed on the IELTS British Council Vietnam fan page. Apart from honoring the young talented winners across East Asia, the live event will also have something interesting on offer for the audience.
The IELTS Prize is awarded to high-caliber individuals with the motivation to develop their careers, to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in any chosen discipline in a higher education institution that accepts IELTS as part of its admission requirements around the world.
This year, due to the Covid-19 situation, in order to cater to students’ changing plans and to better support their dreams, the British Council has extended the IELTS Prize eligibility to those who defer their studies to the next academic year 2021-22.
