HCMC – To bring joy and happiness to underprivileged children, poor people and the abandoned elderly in the city on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Youth Union of the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade donated hundreds of gift sets to them on September 29 and 30.
On September 29, they visited a charity class on Road No. 22, Phuoc Long B Ward, District 9, to present gifts comprising lanterns, mooncakes and stationery to 55 students there. Hoang Trong Khanh said he founded the charity class seven years ago with the aim of helping disadvantaged children have better access to education.
The next day, the volunteers from the Youth Union donated 160 gift sets comprising lanterns, mooncakes, stationery and other necessities to the abandoned elderly and children at Quang Lam Pagoda on Ben Binh Dong Street, Ward 14, District 8.
“I was moved when I saw the elderly and children here being well taken care of by the Buddhist nuns. I hope there will be more charities visiting the pagoda to bring them more happiness and encouragement,” Ngo Hung Nghia, a volunteer, said.
The final destination was Hoa Sen orphanage in Hoc Mon District, which is home to many orphaned girls.
Tran Hai Tuyen, deputy secretary of the Youth Union, said, “I hope there will be other similar events to help more underprivileged children, poor people and the abandoned elderly. This is also a chance for the members of the Youth Union to participate in community-based activities and get to know more about each other.”
The event was sponsored by E-Mart Vietnam, Lotte Mart Vietnam and the Phu Tien Long Power Company.
