HCMC – Vietnam’s Covid caseload has neared 7.8 million after the Ministry of Health confirmed 150,618 fresh Covid cases this evening, March 19.
Among the latest cases, 12 were imported and 150,606 were locally infected in 62 cities and provinces, down 12,559 cases against yesterday.
Hanoi City took the lead in the number of domestic infections at 21,071, followed by Nghe An with 11,099 and Phu Tho with 6,681. Other localities detected fewer than 5,000 infections each.
The Hanoi Department of Health also registered to add 190,000 cases detected earlier to the national Covid case monitoring system, while the health departments of Nam Dinh and Bac Ninh registered to add 48,861 and 35,250 infections, respectively, to the system.
More than 129,400 Covid patients were announced to have fully recovered from the disease today, taking the total recoveries to some four million.
The ministry also reported 77 new Covid fatalities in 30 cities and provinces, raising the country’s Covid death toll to 41,817.
In related news, the HCMC Covid Resuscitation Hospital with 1,000 beds, the largest of its kind in the country, stopped receiving patients on March 18.
The hospital, established at the Oncology Hospital 2 in Thu Duc City at the peak of the fourth Covid wave, accomplished its mission after eight months in operation, according to the HCMC Department of Health.
The hospital specializing in treating seriously-ill Covid patients was shut down as the number of critical Covid patients is on the downtrend.
When the city reached the peak of Covid infections, the hospital treated over 700 Covid patients in critical condition, the local media reported.
The city’s health department is still maintaining the operation of several Covid field hospitals and quarantine facilities to treat and care Covid patients. The Field Hospitals 12, 14 and 16, the Military Hospital 175, the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases and Cho Ray Hospital are maintaining resuscitation beds for critically-ill patients.
