HCMC – Australia will need nearly 1,000 Vietnamese farmers each year and pay them a monthly wage of 3,200-4,000 Australian dollars, equivalent to VND52.8-66 million, for each worker.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on March 28 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to help Vietnamese farm workers join the Australia Agriculture Visa Program.

This is the first MOU signed by Australia to receive foreign workers through the Australian Agriculture Visa Program.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said that the deal to help Vietnamese farm workers join the Australian program marked a milestone in the partnership between the two countries.

The program will allow many Vietnamese farm workers to easily enter Australia for work in the agriculture sector, said Minister Dung.

The cooperation is expected to help increase income of farm workers and give them a chance to learn about techniques, knowledge and advanced technology, the local media reported.

Farm workers aged between 18 and 31 can join the program.

In September last year, the Australian Government announced its agriculture visa program and selected Vietnam as one of four countries prioritized for participation in the program. The program aims to address the shortage of laborers in Australia’s agriculture industry and open the door for foreign workers to work, increase their income, and accumulate work experience in the country.
