HCMC – The Ministry of Health has sent an urgent dispatch to cities and provinces announcing the suspension of the on-arrival health declaration requirement at airports and other international border gates, starting today, April 27.
The decision came as global Covid hospitalizations and deaths are declining and Covid vaccination rates are growing worldwide. Meanwhile, Vietnam has brought the pandemic under control while vaccination rates are extremely high, the ministry stated.
But health authorities of cities and provinces still continue monitoring passengers arriving in the country through airports and seaports in line with the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, with regard to border health quarantine.
The suspension is aimed at enabling Vietnamese nationals and foreigners to come to Vietnam in a hassle-free manner, and preventing busy airports such as Tan Son Nhat in HCMC from being overwhelmed when multiple airplanes land in a short period of time.
Recently, some of the country’s international airports have seen immigration areas become overcrowded as the health monitoring procedure takes much time. As such, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked the ministry to clear the issue quickly in order to facilitate entry into Vietnam.
