About 36,500 businesses return to market in Q1

HCMC – Around 36,500 businesses re-entered the market in the first quarter of the year, up by a sharp 54.8% compared to the same period last year, according to data from the General Statistics Office.

The country saw about 36,400 newly established enterprises between January and March, with total registered capital reaching nearly VND356.8 trillion, down by 4% in the number of businesses but up by 1.3% in capital.

In total, the number of newly established and reactivated businesses in the first quarter of 2025 exceeded 72,900, up by 18.6% year-on-year. On average, more than 24,300 businesses were either newly set up or brought back to operation each month.

By economic sector, 329 businesses in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries registered to operate, down by 12.5% year-on-year.

Nearly 8,600 businesses were registered in the industry and construction sector, a decline of 5.9%, while the services sector saw around 27,500 new registrations, down by 3.3% compared to the same period last year.

In contrast, around 61,400 businesses temporarily suspended operations nationwide, up by 15.1% year-on-year.

Additionally, nearly 11,500 businesses ceased operations while awaiting dissolution procedures, down by 26.1%, and close to 5,900 businesses completed dissolution, up by 23% from the same period last year.

On average, nearly 26,300 businesses withdrew from the market a month.

By sector, wholesale, retail, and repair of automobiles and motorcycles continued to lead in the number of newly registered businesses, with nearly 12,630 enterprises. Meanwhile, nearly 2,200 businesses in this sector were dissolved, up by 20.2%.

The construction sector saw a similar trend, with over 3,500 new business registrations, down by 16.1% year-on-year, while the number of dissolved businesses rose by 17.4%.

The manufacturing and processing sector showed more positive signs, with more than 4,670 new businesses established, up by 3.4% from the same period last year. However, the number of businesses dissolved in this sector also surged by 24.1%.
