HCMC – The Ministry of Public Security has detained Vu The Phiet, chairman of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), and Nguyen Tien Viet, an ACV board member and deputy general director, as part of an investigation into alleged violations of bidding regulations causing particularly serious consequences.
ACV (UPCoM: ACV) on March 5 disclosed the development in an extraordinary information release after receiving a notice from the ministry’s investigative police agency.
Authorities are investigating allegations that the two executives violated bidding rules and accepted money to facilitate contractors winning tenders, reported local media.
Phiet, 53, has worked in Vietnam’s aviation sector since 1995.
From April 2012 to 2017, he served as director of Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi. In January 2017, he was appointed deputy general director of ACV while continuing to lead the airport.
He became a member of ACV’s board of directors in July 2018 and was appointed general manager in August that year.
In September 2024, he was elected secretary of ACV’s Party Committee and chairman of the board.
ACV has recently reported several leadership changes.
Nguyen Duc Hung, deputy general director, has been assigned to oversee the company’s executive board until the board of directors appoints new leadership, according to ACV. The decision took effect on February 2.
Pham Thi Phuong, head of accounting at ACV’s finance and accounting department, has been picked to take charge of the company’s accounting work.
Earlier, ACV approved the removal of Dao Viet Dung from the board of directors so he could focus on his role as full-time deputy secretary of the ACV Party Committee.
ACV has charter capital of more than VND35.8 trillion, with the Ministry of Finance representing the state’s 95.41% stake. The corporation manages and operates 23 airports across Vietnam, including 11 international airports.
ACV is also the investor of the 5,000-hectare Long Thanh International Airport project, a national key infrastructure project with total investment capital of about VND336.63 trillion (around US$16 billion).
