HCMC – Vietnam’s civil aviation sector served more than 64 million passengers from January to mid-September, up nearly 11% from a year earlier, showed data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Cargo transport also recorded strong growth, reaching over one million tons, up almost 19% year-on-year.

On the domestic front, airlines carried 29 million passengers, up more than 7%, along with around 169,000 tons of cargo. International routes continued to expand, serving over 35 million passengers, up 13%, and transporting nearly 947,000 tons of cargo, a 23% rise.

Vietnamese carriers remained the main driver of growth, transporting nearly 44 million passengers, an increase of over 8%, and more than 343,000 tons of cargo, up 5%. Of this, domestic travel accounted for 29 million passengers, while international operations reached nearly 15 million passengers and 174,000 tons of cargo.

The CAAV attributed the results to flexible management measures, particularly during peak travel periods such as Lunar New Year, summer, and national holidays.

To maintain growth in the remaining months of the year, the authority said it would focus on improving regulations, strengthening safety oversight, and supporting airlines in fleet operations. It also plans to adjust airport slot allocations, expand international flight networks, and enhance market forecasting.

The CAAV emphasized that close coordination with the tourism, trade, and investment sectors, along with increased transport capacity during year-end and Lunar New Year 2026, would be key to meeting rising travel and cargo demand.
