HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has asked the Prime Minister to allow Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to conduct a study for implementing the second phase of the Long Thanh International Airport project.
As per the approved investment documents for the first phase, ACV has prepared a financial plan for the subsequent phases, including VND48 trillion for phase two, which is planned to be implemented in the 2028-2032 period.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the completion of phase one and the investment in the next phase would depend on ACV as the investor and the future operator of Long Thanh International Airport.
Previously, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Transport to lead and coordinate with related agencies in studying plans for the implementation of the second phase of the Long Thanh International Airport and the construction of the second runway right after phase one is complete.
The Long Thanh International Airport project covers 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh District, Dong Nai Province, with a capacity to handle 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo per year.
Phase one, scheduled to commence service in 2026, will be capable of handling 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year.
The estimated investment cost of the three-phase project is US$16.06 billion, including US$5.45 billion for phase one.
