HCMC – An armed bank robber in Duc Trong District, Lam Dong Province has been arrested after a 10-hour manhunt.
The suspect was identified as Nguyen Thanh Trung, a 32-year-old native of Ha Tinh Province, who is residing in Di Linh District, Lam Dong Province.
He was detained at around 01:00 a.m on February 8 while attempting to flee on a motorcycle to neighboring Binh Thuan Province, carrying a backpack full of cash.
On the early afternoon of February 7, Trung, wearing a face mask and a cap and carrying a backpack, entered the VietinBank transaction office in Duc Trong District, Lam Dong Province.
After brandishing a look-like gun object to threaten the bank staff, the suspect stole around VND3 billion and fled the scene.
While trying to escape on National Highway 20, the suspect fired a shot at bank security guards and locals, resulting in one security guard being injured.
News reports said that Trung had made business losses and owes a large amount of money, leading him to carry out a robbery.
Currently, an investigation is underway.
