HCMC – HCMC’s tourism sector has gained impressive growth in the first quarter of this year, with nearly 1.4 million international visitors arriving in the city, according to the city’s Department of Tourism.
These figures signify a 23% advancement towards the annual target set for 2024, said Le Truong Hien Hoa, deputy director of the department. In March alone, international arrivals have reached around 481,000.
On the domestic front, HCMC has attracted over eight million tourists during this period, including more than 2.9 million domestic visitors in March.
The city’s total tourism revenue in the first quarter is projected at VND44.71 trillion, representing 23.5% of the annual target for the year.
Looking ahead to the second quarter, the department seeks approval from the HCMC government for a tourism development strategy until 2030.
Efforts will concentrate on promoting characteristic tourism products of various districts within HCMC, developing waterway tourism and enhancing nighttime tourism.
Vietnam’s tourism sector has been performing better this year, with over three million foreign visitors coming in the first two months of 2024, showed data of the General Statistics Office (GSO).
This figure was 68.7% higher than in the year-ago period and equivalent to 98.5% of the same-period number in the pre-Covid year 2019.
The remarkable improvement of inbound tourism is ascribable to Government’s relaxed visa policy and multiple tourism promotion programs carried out by cities and provinces.
This year, the tourism industry aims for around 18 million international visitors and 110 million domestic tourists, with total revenue projected at VND840 trillion.
