HCMC – The Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technology Center (AVSTC) was officially inaugurated in Hanoi this morning, June 11, marking a new step in high-tech cooperation between the two countries.
The center is an effort to enhance bilateral cooperation in strategic technologies, promote digital transformation, support technological and industrial innovation, and strengthen international cybersecurity stability.
It was established under a joint initiative between Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology.
The center is co-led by the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), with Nokia – a global leader in 5G/6G technologies – serving as the founding corporate partner.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has provided an initial grant of AUD2.1 million to establish the center. Global telecommunications firm Nokia is supplying technical equipment to support the center’s operations.
At the launch event, eight seed-funded projects totaling over AUD400,000 were announced to foster collaboration between Vietnamese and Australian scientists. The projects target key areas of strategic technology, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, satellite systems, and quantum technology.
Each project is led by joint research teams involving universities, research institutions, and enterprises from both countries.
