HCMC – Bamboo Airways plans to lease more aircraft to expand its fleet to 12 planes by the end of this year and 18 planes by the end of next year, said Luong Hoai Nam, CEO of Bamboo Airways.

At a contract signing ceremony for a maintenance service package with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) on July 10, Nam stated that the carrier had leased three more Airbus A320 aircraft, bringing the total number of operational aircraft to eight now.

In addition to expanding its fleet, Bamboo Airways is focusing on routes with high travel demand, connecting popular tourist destinations both domestically and internationally, he was quoted by the Vietnam News Agency.

The deal with IAI is part of Bamboo Airways’ strategy to develop and optimize the operation of its narrow-body A320/A321 aircraft fleet.

The contract, valued at up to US$36 million, will see IAI providing maintenance services for six CFM56-5B engines on Bamboo Airways’ A321 aircraft during the 2024-2025 period. IAI will also lease one CFM56-5B engine to Bamboo Airways for a two-year term starting in 2024.
