HCMC – A total of 6,200 packages including washable masks, soaps and hand towels have been presented by the Embassy of Belgium in Vietnam to preschool children and families in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces.
During his visit to Quang Nam Province to review Belgian-funded projects on June 10, Belgian Ambassador to Vietnam Paul Jansen presented the sanitary packages to children in Tra Mai Commune.
Similar packages were also offered to preschool children in Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces.
This is part of the embassy’s contribution to the successful fight against the coronavirus in Vietnam and to keep the virus out of schools.
A Belgian-funded education project in Quang Nam Province is the “Mitigating Preschool Children’s Barriers to Learning in Disadvantaged and Ethnically Diverse Districts -BAMI” program, which is being implemented from 2017 to 2021, with a total budget of over four million euros.
The program, operated by Belgium’s non-profit organization VVOB, focuses on improving the quality of early childhood education in poor ethnic minority districts in three provinces including Kon Tum, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.
The project strengthens the capabilities of preschool teachers on process-oriented child monitoring and enables them to address gender, environment and ethnic diversity barriers to learning and participation and to ensure a deep-level learning among all children.
Ambassador Paul Jansen is looking forward to the positive changes brought about by the Belgian-funded projects and is hopeful that the VVOB can continue to help mitigate the adverse effects of Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, on the education of preschool children.
