HCMC – The four largest banks of Vietnam have issued alerts to customers following a recent cyber incident at the National Credit Information Center (CIC), affirming the safety of their systems while cautioning against fraud attempts.

Vietcombank, VietinBank, Agribank, and BIDV said their operations remain secure and independent of CIC, and rolled out security reminders to help customers prevent scams.

Vietcombank stressed that its IT infrastructure and databases are fully separate from CIC and safeguarded with multi-layered security standards. All services continue to run smoothly, the bank said. It added that CIC data does not include account balances, savings, card details, CVV/CVC codes, or transaction records. Customers were urged to watch out for fake emails, messages, or calls impersonating bank staff requesting sensitive information or file downloads.

The lender reiterated that it never asks clients to share confidential data via phone, email, or text. It encouraged users to activate balance alerts on the Digibank app and monitor transactions closely. Suspicious cases should be reported immediately to Vietcombank’s 24/7 hotline at 1900 545413 or at the nearest branch.

Agribank also affirmed that its technology system complies with ISO 27001:2022 standards and is entirely independent from CIC. It noted that CIC does not collect information on deposits, balances, card numbers, or payment histories. The bank warned customers against common fraud schemes involving calls or texts posing as banks or authorities to solicit OTPs, CVV/CVC codes, or passwords.

BIDV confirmed the CIC incident has not affected its card services or e-banking operations. Under Circular 15/2023/TT-NHNN and Decision 573/QĐ-NHNN, the bank does not share sensitive customer data with CIC. It warned that fraudsters could exploit the incident by impersonating banks, CIC, or police to spread malware or trick customers. Clients were reminded not to disclose OTPs or passwords, click on suspicious links, or download apps from unknown sources.

BIDV underscored that it never sends links requesting customer information or software downloads. Users should only install applications from the App Store or Google Play, check their transaction history regularly, and contact the hotline at 1900 9247 if irregularities arise.

VietinBank, in a separate statement, confirmed that sensitive information such as balances, deposit transactions, card numbers, and e-banking login details are not included in CIC systems. The bank said it strictly complies with regulations to safeguard customers’ rights and assets.

It advised clients to remain cautious with unusual calls and messages, download apps only from official stores, review conditions before installing, and stay updated on fraud prevention through VietinBank’s website or iPay Mobile app.
