HCMC – Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah arrived in Hanoi today afternoon, beginning his state visit to Vietnam from November 30 to December 2 at the invitation of State President Luong Cuong.

This is his seventh visit to Vietnam so far.

Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were Presidential Office Chairman Le Khanh Hai, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brunei Tran Anh Vu, and Vice Chairman of the Hanoi City People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen.

Accompanying Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah were Brunei’s Prince Abdul Mateen; Minister of Health Hj Mohd Isham Jaafar; Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Amin Liew Abdullah; and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Erywan Pehin Yusof.

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah concurrently serves as Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, Minister of Finance and Economy, and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit, the two countries will discuss and review the implementation of cooperation areas under the Action Program for the Implementation of the Comprehensive Partnership for 2023–2027, adopted during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Brunei in February 2023.

The visit provides an opportunity for the two countries to discuss measures to deepen cooperation in key areas such as politics and diplomacy, defense and security, energy, the Halal industry, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, as well as other areas of mutual interest.

For Brunei, the visit demonstrates the country’s appreciation of and strong friendship with Vietnam as a trusted partner within ASEAN.

For Vietnam, hosting the Sultan’s visit contributes to implementing the foreign policy of the Party and State, which attaches importance to relations with ASEAN members, while strengthening multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Brunei and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.

Vietnam and Brunei established diplomatic relations on February 29, 1992, and elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Partnership in March 2019.
