CAAV issues notice to airlines over Russia, Ukraine airspace closure

By Minh Duy

Must read

HCMC – Russia and Ukraine have shut down some of their airports, and restricted or closed parts of their airspace as well as air routes, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has said.

The authority has issued a notice about the airspace and airport closure to the Vietnam Airlines Group and local carriers, including Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, and Pacific Airlines.

According to the national aviation authority, due to the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Ukrainian authorities have announced the closure of airspace over FIR Dnipro (UKDV), Simferopol (UKFV), Lviv (UKLV), Odesa (UKOV), and Kyiv (UKBV). Meanwhile, Russia has closed a part of the airspace over FIR Rostov (URRV) and other regions, it said.

The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation said Russia and Ukraine have issued NOTAMs (notices to airmen or notices to air missions) about the closure of airports and the restriction and closure of airspace, especially over areas bordering northeastern Ukraine.

CAAV has also received a notice from the International Civil Aviation Organization’s European and North Atlantic Regional Office about the closure of airspace over Moldova, Ukraine, and part of the flight information region in Russia.

ICAO has said it will actively work with the relevant authorities and other countries in the region to monitor further developments, especially those that could affect flight safety.

To ensure the safety of flights to, from, and over Russia, Ukraine, and Moldova, CAAV has asked the Vietnam Airlines Group and local carriers to take the ICAO notice into account. They have also been asked to constantly update and choose alternate routes if necessary to ensure their flights avoid the affected airspace and airports.
