HCMC – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has written to the Ministry of Transport proposing raising the flight frequency on the Hanoi-Danang/HCMC and Danang-HCMC air routes.
Under the proposal, the increased frequency of round-trip flights will be launched from November 21 to 30, with six daily flights on each of the three air routes. Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air will operate two flights each, while Bamboo Airways and Pacific Airlines will launch one each.
As for the other air routes, each airline will operate no more than one round-trip flight per day, according to the proposal.
Vietravel Airlines might be allowed to launch one round-trip flight per day on each air route from November.
After five days of the pilot resumption of domestic flights from October 10 to 14, four airlines– Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways and Pacific Airlines–operated 98 of a total of 200 one-way flights approved earlier on 16 of the 20 routes from/to 16 airports, with over 5,920 passengers onboard, according to CAAV.
As such, the number of flights remained low as many flights saw few passengers onboard, said the authority.
After the ministry and CAAV issued directives on air passenger transport, local airlines were selling tickets on their websites only, so on the first few days, passengers could not access information promptly to actively plan their flights, leading to fewer passengers.
Earlier on October 8, the Ministry of Transport issued a decision approving a pilot reopening of domestic air routes from October 10 to 20.
Under the decision, these flights will only allow passengers who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 with the last dose administered at least two weeks before departure, or those who have recovered from the disease in the last six months. Besides, all passengers have to test negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours before their flights.
