HCMC – The Ministry of Construction has approved a plan to expand the Cam Lo-La Son section of the North-South Expressway from two to four lanes, with an estimated investment of more than VND6.46 trillion.

The section will stretch nearly 99 kilometers, including more than 36 kilometers in Quang Tri Province and close to 63 kilometers in Hue City.

It will start in Cam Hieu Commune, Cam Lo District, Quang Tri, connecting to the Van Ninh-Cam Lo section, and end in Loc Son Commune, Phu Loc District, Hue, where it links to the La Son-Hoa Lien Expressway.

In the initial phase, the expressway will be expanded from two to four lanes. In the final phase, it will be widened to six lanes.

Four bridges on the main route and 17 overpasses that already have four lanes will be retained.

Meanwhile, 33 bridges along the main route will be expanded or have new structures added, and two new overpasses will be built at interchanges, with widths adjusted to match the expanded roadbed.

The project has a total investment of nearly VND6.5 trillion, including more than VND263 billion for compensation and resettlement. It is expected to be completed in 2025 and put into operation in 2026.

The Cam Lo–La Son Expressway has been opened to traffic since late 2022 with two lanes and no central divider, except for nine overtaking sections featuring four lanes and a median strip. Since then, the expressway has seen a high number of accidents.

Nearby expressway sections, such as La Son-Hoa Lien and Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan, are also being expanded. The Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan section is expected to be completed by September 2025, while the La Son-Hoa Lien section is scheduled for substantial completion by the end of 2025.
