HCMC – The ferry service linking HCMC’s outlying coastal district of Can Gio and neighboring Vung Tau City is set to open to traffic in late December, with tickets priced at some VND50,000-VND70,000 each.
A representative of Quoc Chanh Ltd., Co., the investor of the ferry service, said on December 16 that it was HCMC’s first ferry service to depart from the Tac Suat Ferry Terminal in Can Thanh Town in the district to the neighboring city.
The system of ferry terminals and ferries operating on the ferry route is ready. The ferry service will run on a trial basis on December 25 and be officially put into service four days later to serve passengers during the new year holiday.
Two ferries are ready to serve the route, the local media reported, citing the representative.
The ferries measure 45 meters in length and 10 meters in width and have a capacity of 2,900 horsepower. They are expected to accommodate 350 passengers, 100 motorbikes and 20 cars each, with 24 trips each day. The ferry will depart every 60 minutes.
Once in place, the ferry service is expected to reduce the travel time between Can Gio District and Vung Tau City to 30 minutes from three hours and 30 minutes by road.
Besides, it will take some two hours and 30 minutes for local people from Long An and Tien Giang provinces to travel to Vung Tau via the new waterway route, greatly reducing the travel time, compared to using the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway.
The 15-kilometer ferry route had earlier been planned to open to traffic on September 2, but the coronavirus pandemic hampered work on the project.
