HCMC – Can Tho City is pushing to accelerate the investment process for the Tran De deep-sea port project, seeking its inclusion in the action program to be submitted to the 14th National Party Congress for approval and funding allocation.

According to the city government, Can Tho has worked with the 14th National Party Congress’s Socio-Economic Subcommittee to include the Tran De Port project and several other key infrastructure developments in the Congress documents. The goal is to secure central-level support, investment priorities, and early implementation.

The city’s Department of Finance has listed the project in its investment promotion portfolio and plans to submit it for approval within this month. Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is developing a detailed land-use plan for the port and its integrated logistics center.

The Department of Construction has also proposed that the central government allocate VND19.4 trillion in advance to develop core infrastructure, including breakwaters, shipping channels, and wharves.

To facilitate implementation, Can Tho has established a special task force, known as Task Force 1, to oversee major projects and address obstacles during execution, with the Tran De deep-sea port among its top priorities.

The Tran De Port project will cover more than 4,400 hectares, including a 4,000-hectare logistics area and a 435-hectare offshore port. It will feature a 17.8-kilometer sea bridge and a 9.8-kilometer breakwater, capable of accommodating 100,000-DWT container ships and 160,000-DWT bulk carriers.

Total investment is estimated at VND162.73 trillion, with over VND19.4 trillion funded by the state and the remainder mobilized from private investors.
